Going to Palawan was one of our many dream travels, especially the underground river in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. During our stay there we got to meet Mayor Hagedorn and the Miss Earth candidates at the Asturias hotel.
We loved everything about Puerto Princesa. Even the color-coded tricycles. We hope to return there soon. But maybe, the next time we visit there it will be a waypoint for a side trip to its neighboring tourist hotspots that are Coron and El Nido.
The trip to the Underground River was pretty smooth since the roads there are well maintained. We rode on a van all the way to Sabang port with only a few stops here and there to buy souvenirs and take pictures. One of which is at Buenavista viewing deck that offers a panoramic view of the Ulugan bay and Tres Marias islets. We calculated it to be around 30 minutes before you reach the port of Sabang.
From Sabang port we arranged for a boat to pick us up and it was one of the most scenic trips we’ve had. Lots of things to see along the way like exotic birds, white sand beaches and limestone mountains.
Would you believe that this is the entrance to the Underground river there? Look at how perfect the sand is!
The mesmerizing limestone rock formation adjacent to the entrance. Behold!
Here’s the portal into the 8.2 km long underground river that flows directly to the sea.
Here you can see clearly the contrasting beauty of the Underground River of Puerto Princesa, Palawan. One of the new 7 wonders of the world!
